Attention all FH&H readers:
Tomorrow, February 12, 2013, is Fat Tuesday, aka pączki day. Get off your ass and go make it wider by eating a pączek (the singular form of pączki) or six! If you grew up in a city with a large Polish population like I did, you already know about these amazing little heart-attack-in-dough-balls and need no introduction–I suppose there was a benefit to attending Polish Catholic school from 1995-2005.
For those of you who have never heard of pączki, well…consider yourself warned. Once you’ve had a real one, you’ll be addicted. The unfortunate thing about that is that they are usually only available in the week or so before Lent starts. Here is a short little blurb (including a recipe) that better defines exactly what they are. I would type more, but it’s almost midnight, I’ve been up since 5 AM, and I get to wake up at 5 again tomorrow.
I stopped at the local specialty bakery on my way to my ER shift today and bought a half dozen–ricotta (my personal favorite), bavarian cream, lemon, chocolate, cherry, and blueberry. I ate the ricotta and bavarian cream pączki in the parking lot of the hospital with no shame whatsoever, and the remaining four are waiting to be transported to school tomorrow for my friends and I to devour before our med/trauma lecture. Mmmmmm
